India Pale Ales have been brewed in Edinburgh for over 170 years - a city renowned as one of the foremost brewing centres in the world.
Indeed we can claim some link to the original name in 1824, when the Edinburgh Newspaper the Caledonian Mercury coined the phrase in advertising – ‘Messers Younger and Somerville PALE ALE for India made to order’ 1
